Entry notes

Langkawi is an approved customs entry point for GA aircraft coming from outside Malaysia. Eagle Aviation handles the GenDec process efficiently — email ops a day before with your aircraft details, ETA, and passport numbers. They meet you on the apron and walk you through immigration. Without them the process is doable but slower.

The duty-free status means you can load up on alcohol and chocolate before the return leg. Limits apply per person — check current Malaysia customs allowances, but in practice GA arrivals are rarely inspected closely.

Fuel

AVGAS 100LL available on the GA apron. Significantly cheaper than Subang or Penang due to duty-free. Top up here rather than on the mainland if your schedule allows. The pump is staffed 0700–1900 local; outside those hours you can arrange fuel in advance through Rizal.

Apron and parking

The GA apron is west of the main terminal. Parking is on tarmac with marked bays. Rizal’s team will direct you. Tie-downs and chocks available. The apron can get busy during peak season (Dec–Jan) — call ahead if you need guaranteed parking for multiple nights.

Weather pattern

Northeast monsoon (Nov–Apr) brings clear skies and light winds from the northeast — the best flying season. The Andaman Sea approach from the east is stunning on a clear day. Southwest monsoon (May–Oct) brings heavy convective activity; the island itself can be clear while the surrounding sea has embedded CBs. Plan fuel and alternates carefully in the shoulder months.

Accommodation

Stayed at The Danna — old-world colonial style on the marina, very comfortable. Good sundowner spot at the bar overlooking the boats. For budget, Casa Fina near Pantai Cenang is clean and a 5-minute walk to the beach. Avoid the large resort strip hotels — overpriced for what they are.

Duty-free tip

The main duty-free complex (Eagle Square area, near the ferry terminal) has the best selection for alcohol. A separate outlet near the airport has fuel, snacks, and packaged goods but limited alcohol. Go to town if you’re stocking up.
